This is a series of Cyanotypes on Cotton. One piece of cotton was sprayed with the traditional formula cyanotype and then pine branches were laid on top. the entire piece was then exposed to the sun for 4 hours and then rinsed and dried. Pieces were then cut into 6 inch x 6 inch sections and toned.

White Pine 1 - Bleached in Borax for 30 seconds

White Pine 2 - Bleached in Borax 30 seconds, Toned in Tannic Acid 5 minutes. Bleached again in Borax for 30 seconds.

White Pine 3 - No toning

White Pine 4 - Bleached 60 seconds in Borax

White Pine 5 - Bleached in Washing Soda 90 seconds, toned 5 minutes in Tannic Acid, Bleached in Washing Soda again 30 seconds

White Pine 6 - Bleached 30 seconds Washing soda, Toned in Tannic Acid 5 minutes, Bleached 20 seconds Washing Soda

White Pine 7 - Bleached 90 seconds Washing soda.

White Pine 8 - Bleached 30 seconds Washing soda.

White Pine 9 - Bleached 30 seconds Washing soda. Bleached 30 seconds Borax

White Pine 10 - Bleached 60 seconds Washing soda.

White Pine 11 - Bleached 30 seconds Washing soda. Toned 5 minutes Tannic Acid

White Pine 12 - Toned 5 minutes Tannic Acid

These experiments helped me to better understand how a cotton fabric that was cyanotyped would react under different bleaching and toning methods. Each piece was mounted on a card and the process was written on the back. The cards were then scanned.
